Trek makes a decent bike for cyclocross. They are more known for their road and mountain bikes, as are most companies in the industry. Cyclocross is not a huge market and although it has a passionte and growing following, it’s hard to believe that it will ever reach the level as other forms of cycling have over the past decade. I’m all for it growing, but I’m realistic too.
Trek recently updated their website with the 2009 models. It was a nice surprize seeing some new colors and options in the Madone road bikes, including SRAM Red spec, but it was also cool to see that they’ve improved some on the ‘cross bike as well. With cyclocross season pretty much here, it inspired me to do a little photoshopping (no pun, really) and create what I thought would be the ultimate Trek cyclocross bike – a ‘cross version of their highly coveted and amazing-riding Madone road race bike.
The following composition was created out of four photos that I downloaded from Trek’s website. I used their XO2 cross bike, the Madone 5.5, Madone 6.5, and Madone 6.9 Pro Red. I needed several images to be able to layer the correct components, geometry and wheels, and then blend them all togehter into a believeable rendition of a “concept bike.”
The result was pretty much exactly what I was looking for – both visually and technically. Take a close look… can you tell where one bike begins and the other ends?
For those Trek/cyclocross fans out there, don’t hold your breathe on this one. I’d be interested in knowing who would buy one of these, but I wouldn’t plan on it ever becoming a reality! I’ve sent it along to my contact at Trek just for kicks… we’ll see what they have to say!
